Society of Physician Assistants in Trauma and Critical Care Medicine seeks to expand medical expertise in trauma and critical care medicine, through membership and collaboration.

September 9, 2004 -- The Society of Physician Assistants in Trauma and Critical Care Medicine, founded in 2003, goals are to recruit PAs and PA students into the organization creating a network of PAs in Trauma and Critical Care Medicine further defining the Physician Assistant's role as a vital team member in Trauma and Critical Care Medicine. Future goals include incorporation of specific education and training at the PA student level for a career in trauma or critical care.

The Society of Physician Assistants in Trauma and Critical Care Medicine mission:
1. Promote the use of Physician Assistant's as part of the multidisciplinary approach to care of the critically ill and injured.
2. Promote the education of Physician Assistant's and Physician Assistant students in all aspects of caring for the critically ill and injured.
3. Create a network where Physician Assistants and students interested in the care of the critically ill and injured can learn more about the role of the Physician Assistant in this field, facilitate communication, share ideas, discuss current trends and issues, and exchange information.
4. Serve as an adjunct to the Society of Critical Care Medicine Physician Assistant Section and offer support and guidance.

Currently membership is free and open to PA's of all specialty backgrounds. If you are currently managing critically ill or injured patients in the hospital setting or are interested in this career path we welcome you. While we do not have dues we encourage members to join the Society of Critical Care Medicine (www.sccm.org) and get involved in the issues that shape our practice. The SCCM has a Physician Assistant section and is actively working in partnership with us to get the word out about PA's and their role in critical care and the multidisciplinary team the SCCM promotes.
