Number Six Web-Enables Health Care Projects for Government and Research
Denver, CO, July 24, 2001 -- Number Six Software, Inc., a software development and training company based in Northern Virginia, announces three new contracts in the health care field that support web-based projects for government health programs and medical research. These projects indicate an emerging domain expertise for Number Six in assisting health care-focused customers in developing web-based software systems.
The three new projects include contracts with the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the Hospital for Special Surgery/Alberto Vilar Center for Research, and the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors.
The National Cancer Institute (within the National Institutes of Health in Maryland) has contracted with Number Six to develop an automated grants management system for medical research. The grants management system will provide NCI with the tools necessary to administer grants including the capability to monitor the status of grant applications throughout their lifecycle, modify grant information, and create detailed reports on grant activities. NCI selected Number Six for its extensive knowledge of high-performance software development processes and best practices. The system will be deployed within five months.
Number Six is also developing a large-scale web application for the Hospital for Special Surgery and the Alberto Vilar Center for Research (HSS-Vilar Center). The project will enhance collaborative medical research, connecting geographically disparate medical professionals to efficiently share clinical, lab, and genomic research data, while protecting the privacy of individuals. Number Six has completed the inception phase of the project to define core requirements and scope the effort. HSS-Vilar Center has entered into an agreement with Number Six to conduct the elaboration phase over a four-month period to design and construct a base system to provide Internet-based distributed data set management among collaborating medical research institutions.
Finally, Number Six has entered into an agreement with the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors to update and web-enable a searchable database system that will catalogue and map federal HIV/AIDS services grants to states, localities and community health centers in the U.S. and its territories. This project is a follow-up to a previous effort developed for the federal Health Resources and Services Administration to provide detailed program information to constituents and Members of Congress as part of the Congressional reauthorization of the Ryan White CARE Act in 2000.
"We are excited about the prospects of assisting these government and health care research organizations in building web-enabled systems," said Number Six Chairman Brian Lyons. "These projects indicate the trust that our customers place in us for applying software best practices and in building effective web solutions." Number Six President Rob Daly added, "Number Six is building a strong portfolio of customers in the medical field that are seeking to capitalize on the advanced technology solutions Number Six provides for improving communications and database management."
